Art Public Space – Culture Matters agiert an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Kultur, Stadtplanung und Architektur. Die gemeinnützige Organisation sieht ihre aktive Rolle darin, künstlerische Perspektiven und kulturelle Freiräume in Stadtentwicklungsprozessen mitplanend und mitgestaltend zu verankern. Art Public Space – Culture Matters verfolgt dabei drei Schwerpunkte als Leitlinie: Die Aktivierung zeitgenössischer künstlerischer und kultureller Praktiken als emanzipatorische Impulse für die Stadtgesellschaft; die Integration von Kunst und Kultur als wichtige Bausteine für die Vorstellung, Gestaltung und Reflexion von städtischen Transformationsprozessen; die Nutzung öffentlicher Räume für Möglichkeiten des Austauschs und Experiments. Dafür entwickelt Art Public Space – Culture Matters interdisziplinär und in Kooperation mit Künstler*innen, Kulturschaffenden, Kommunen und weiteren Partner*innen temporäre sowie langfristige Projekte, Forschungsvorhaben, Diskurs- und Vermittlungsformate. Ziel ist es, mit künstlerischen Mitteln räumliche und ästhetische Qualitäten des Urbanen zu untersuchen, hervorzuheben und zu ermächtigen, Art Public Space – Culture Matters bringt sich damit in die aktuellen Diskurse über die Rolle von Kunst und Kultur für die künftige Entwicklung des Städtischen ein.

Art Public Space – Culture Matters acts at the interface of art, culture, urban planning and architecture. The non-profit organisation sees its role in facilitating the integration of artistic perspectives and cultural spaces into the planning and co-designing of urban development processes. Three principles guide Art Public Space – Culture Matters: the activation of contemporary artistic and cultural practices as emancipatory impulses for urban society; the integration of art and culture as an important foundation for the shared imagination, design and reflection of urban transformation processes; the use of public spaces for opportunities of exchange and experimentation. In cooperation with artists, cultural practitioners, municipalities, communities and other partners, Art Public Space – Culture Matters develops in an interdisciplinary manner projects of shorter and longer duration, research initiatives as well as formats for discourse and mediation. By using artistic means to investigate, emphasize and empower spatial and aesthetic qualities of the urban, Art Public Space – Culture Matters contributes to current discourses on the role of art and culture for future urban development.
